We cannot repeat it often enough: construction sites in Montr\u00e9al are tremendously frustrating. Fortunately, with the adoption of this charter, we might finally start seeing some light at the end of the \u201corange cone\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the City\u2019s commitments under this new charter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ONE: Accessibility, safety and mobility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Plan and coordinate work taking into account the global work of all partners.<\/li><li>Ensure safe pedestrian mobility.<\/li><li>Display clear signage.<\/li><li>Use adequate safety devices.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TWO: Impact management and mitigation measures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Implement nuisance mitigation measures.<\/li><li>Improve the cleanliness of work sites.<\/li><li>Reduce excessive signage.<\/li><li>Ensure the protection of trees.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THREE: Communication with the concerned public at all stages of the project<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Take into account the needs expressed by individuals, businesses and institutions.<\/li><li>Improve cooperation with partners.<\/li><li>Adopt best practices.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOUR: Use of environmentally friendly work processes and materials<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use techniques aimed at reducing the sites\u2019 ecological footprint.<\/li><li>Reduce transport activities for site operations globally.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other key takeaways of this charter are the City\u2019s commitment to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Strive to remove or cover orange cones and signage if no longer required during the work or at the end of a project;<\/li><li>Set limits for the obstructions resulting from work sites, in terms of both time and scope;<\/li><li>Reduce noise pollution produced by construction equipment;<\/li><li>Convey clear and precise information on its projects;<\/li><li>Take charge of 80% of citizens\u2019 requests within 48 hours and close 80% of requests within 10 days;<\/li><li>Foster innovation by taking advantage of new urban developments and experimenting with various sustainable development methods.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#0071a1\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gascon.ca\/en\/jean-proulx\/\">Jean proulx<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MONTR\u00c9AL\u2019S CONSTRUCTION SITES CHARTER: A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION The City of Montr\u00e9al has recently adopted a construction sites charter.
